AutoCAD 2013:: Shuts Down After Closing A Drawing Feb 13, 2013. The program shuts down every time I save and close a drawing; this way I am loosing any other drawing that is still open. I am working on a 64bit Widows7. AutoCAD 2013, 60-90 days into it, upgraded from 2007. AutoCAD 2013 for Mac is AutoCAD designed for the Mac and therefore has a different user interface that is centric to the Mac experience. VERY close to Windows version ( 2013.1) 8/7/2013 12:30:00 PM 5/5 By ScriptureFan I have been using ACAD since the days of version 10 in DOS (before Windows).
There is a little getting accustomed to the new command layout, and you don't have FULL functionality yet of every command. However, I am a structural engineer who prefers macs for their stability and reliability. I was having trouble with the Windows version on Parallels, likely due to the age of my hardware and limited memory. I was glad to get this upgrade and am pleased that I can use it natively on my macs. I am very pleased with this version-especially when compared with the first attempts some years ago.
Another issue to consider is that if we, as a design community, do not support Autodesk's outreach to the mac community, we run the risk of this being their last attempt. I would like to see Revit LT for mac out next since I am more comfortable not going through another software layer of using a VM to get what I need done. Well, it could be better ( 2013.1) 7/23/2013 7:18:00 AM 3/5 By theotherwhitematt After using the full version of Autocad on a PC for 10+ years I made the switch to LT for the Mac. After using 2013 LT for a week, the initial excitement of running Autocad natively on a Mac has worn off and the rough edges are beginning to show. Some problems are endemic to going the cheap LT route such as not being able to specify a default file format version to save to and no etransmit support. Other problems are more infuriating such as not being able to copy between files and disappearing palettes. Is this app worth $899?
Well, what other app are you going to use. Works well on OS 10.8.3 ( 2013.1) 5/30/2013 6:38:00 AM 4/5 By mr big movie I use LT 2013 at a very basic level, just 2D layouts mainly for CNC cutting and 2D design. That being said it works well and I have never had any issues with it at all. I know that there are other options available but I have spent a lot of time using AutoCad years ago and did not want to spend time learning a new software package. I do belive that if your are working on more complex jobs that you shoud look at options.
The other main reason I decided on LT 2013 for mac is becouse I only use MAC now days and needed something that would work on my MacBook Pro. Ill finish by saying I gave thsi a 4 out of 5 rating only becouse I can asume that more experanced CAD users could find fualts with it doing more complex work. Not Ready For Prime Time ( 2013.1) 3/24/2013 3:01:00 PM 1/5 By GVMCH As the other reviewers have stated, this version of AutoCAD LT appears to have it's share of problems. I'm having difficulty with a number of issues related to the SNAP command and the use of polar coordinates when drawing lines. For some reason, the software keeps wanting to snap to the grid even though I keep turning the SNAP command off. Even when I enter the OSNAP command, it will snap to the grid instead of the object.
It even does so when I specifically enter the commands, INTERSECTION or END. With regard to polar coordinates, the software will accept a polar coordinate for one line but fail to accept it for another. I actually have to save the drawing, shut down the program, then reopen the drawing for the software to accept another polar coordinate command. I don't believe it's my computer since I just bought a new iMac with the following configuration: OS X 10.8.3, 3.4 GHz i7 processor, 32 GB of DDR3 RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 68MX 2048 MB. I wouldn't recommend purchasing this version of LT unless one's goal is to maximize the number of bugs per dollar invested.
( 2013.1) 11/8/2012 6:44:00 PM 1/5 By BlackTeeSys I recentlly updated from 2012LT for Mac which had its quirks but was quite solid. Upon first install evrything was working much smoother. First day of regular use the program generated 21,000+ errors in my existing file. When I did the recovery all came back except it turned a number of layers in my attached xref into new objects on the 0 layer. Second day of use the program will not even launch without crashing. For now I will have to go back to 2012 until Autodesk gets their s.#! If they pull it together, I will update my review.
MBP 6,2, OS 10.8.2, 8GB RAM. Different Set of Headaches (2013) 10:14:00 PM 2/5 By architect office Recently upgraded from an older version in hopes of eliminating a plethra of frustrations with an older version (an computers). Bought all new imacs for the office and this app.
The prefrences all seem to keep resorting back to ANYTHING other than what they were saved as. All settings seem to disappear and pallettes move around every time you open the program. Sometimes they are moved out of the viewable area and are a pain to get back into view.
Layer filters were a huge issue causing hours of rainbow ball frustrations. There are NO associated blocks such as doors, furniture or otherwise. No option (that I've found yet) to upgrade those issues. THERE IS NO LAYER MANAGER, which has caused a lot of trouble with the way in which we produce our drawings. Other annoyances include: when you are doing mText, any time you include a space, the next letter fails to appear unless you pause between words. If your curser is over a palette, the mouse inputs only occur in that palette, instead of the drawing (when over layers, you scroll through layers instead of zooming in drawing).
The palettes, snap settings, ortho or polar tracking, etc all change around for seemingly no apparent reason (maybe there is a rhyme or reason, but our whole office can't figure it out yet.) Seems to be less about a slow learning curve and more about shortcomings or glitches. As indicated in the title, we resolved a lot of past headaches by upgrading, but we have also had a whole lot of new headaches associated with AutoCad LT 2013. If we had to do it over again, we would consider buying the full blow set for a significant amount more.
We are trying to run a business afterall You get what you pay for.
